Affordable Web Hosting Services

I have several websites and I’m always looking for deals on my webspace.  I like to get the best package I possibly can at the very lowest price.  I want minimal downtime and a reliable name.  Plenty of storage space, PHP, My Sql, plenty of email accounts: it’s all important to me.

It often seems like I find a good webhosting company at a decent price only to find that one or two important features are missing from the package.  Or I’ll find a package that has everything I need and then realize that I’ll be paying twice as much as I’d like to.  That minimizes any profit that I might have made on the sites that I’m designing.

Without naming names, I am paying a little more than I’d like to right now for my webspace and domains and I do experience downtime more often than I find acceptable.  I’ve been shopping around for new a provider and have now been introduced to Host208 - Webhosting Services.

Host 208’s all-inclusive web hosting packages are suitable for all types of internet users, from the advanced user who needs all the bells and whistles to the web design novice who is looking to learn how to use those features.  Their business package (not just for businesses!) is comparable to the package I have now with another company except that their prices are lower.  At only $4.50 per month, this package is exactly what a lot of web designers would need without breaking the bank.

Host 208 also guarantee a 1-hour response time from the customer support department so that you’ll never be left in the dark.

The Police 2-Disc Compilation

As you’ll know, I’ve mention my love of the band The Police in my blog before, but with the release of the new 2-disc compilation Police CD, I feel it’s only right to mention them again.  The CD was released on June 5th of this year and even comes with a vintage Police poster!  I bought the CD a couple of weeks ago, soon after it’s release, and it was definitely worth the money.  A must-have, I’d say!

Burn Notice

There's a new show starting soon on the USA network called Burn Notice and it's about an agent called Michael Westen.  He gets a burn notice which is an official term used by one intelligence agency to another to mark an agent as unreliable.  He's been fired, really, and can no longer be trusted.  They freeze his bank accounts and literally make it next to impossible for him to stay at large.

So he takes on the role of private investigator to bring in a little cash so that he can fund the search for answers to his own personal investigation.  The show looks like it will be a hit.

The USA Network's Burn Notice is sure to be a hit!

Please be patient, YouTube takes a little while to make my video available.

Decorating Your Home

As I sit here on my old office chair that has certainly seen better days, I imagine what it would be like to get myself a really nice, leather swivel chair with arm supports and nice molded back.  I’d like a chair that I can lean back on without it creaking like it’s about to collapse.  I’d like it to be posh and fancy.  Heck, I’d like an office and a desk to match too!

So here she is: The beautiful President Executive Chair, made of premium grade, top grain black leather and polished aluminium feet.  The chair is tilt and height adjustable and has a full 360 degree swivel.  Not to mention, of course, that it’s a great-looking chair!  I think that I could really be comfortable in that.

And while I’m at, I think I’ll check out the other furniture at Great Priced Furniture.  They do offer international shipping and their prices are, well, great, just as the name suggests.  For example, I’ve found this amazing canopy bed for only $225!  I find that very reasonable and I just love the bed.

Where’s my credit card…?

Two for the price of one

I wrote my previous entry about a blog I'd been reading and the author of that has visited to set me straight on a few things.  As it turns out, I'd misunderstood: I thought that the blog owner had written the entry that I'd commented on but I've had it pointed out to me a friend had actually written it.

For the sake of maintaining the good reputation of the blog owner of The Blog Revolution, I just wanted to make that clear.

Read said blog entry here

The Blog Revolution

I like to read other people’s blogs and I tend to get recommendations from all over the place.  Mostly, I find myself following links from blog to blog, looking at what other people are ‘favoriting’.  And occasionally, I find a particular blog entry that needs commenting on because of its, well, controversial nature.

I feel that that can be said about this particular entry at The Blog Revolution.  This entry goes back to January of 2006, so although it may not be current, the topic certainly is timeless for anyone who likes to dine out.  As I do.

The author writes about his job at Subway.  Like McDonald’s and other fast food outlets, I’m sure that the job is low-paying and that the restaurant sees a fairly high turnover.  Because of this, it mainly attracts students (like the author of this blog) and part-timers, perhaps people who don’t take the job as seriously as the employer might like.

The funniest thing about Subway, to me, is that they call the people who make your sandwich “Sandwich Artists”.  That cracks me up.  Anyway…

The blogger tells of some of the ways he has gotten back at customers who have been a bit bitchy or have complained.  At first, I found the entry amusing, but then it got a bit creepy.  I like to eat out and I’m starting to worry that I’ll someday fall prey to such behaviour.  If I haven’t already!!  I do try not to be difficult.  In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever been rude in any way.

I too have worked in a fast food restaurant.  It seems to be the place for all young people to start.  I chose Kentucky Fried Chicken (now simply called KFC.  What’s that all about??).  I worked there for a whopping 4 years!  I saw some of this kind of thing go on there too, but I can honestly say (HONESTLY!) that I was never a part of it.  I never licked anything or spat on anything.  I never gave a customer something that I’d dropped on the floor or anything like that.  Frankly, the whole thing freaks me out!

The author of this blog writes “Customers are stupid…and it’s not their fault…they just don’t know what’s what”.  Is that true?  Wouldn’t I be able to tell if I’d be a victim of these tricks?

Ugh… I feel sick.

UPDATE:  As you'll see from the comments, I misunderstood: I thought that the blog owner had written the entry that I'd commented on but I've had it pointed out to me a friend had actually written it.

For the sake of maintaining the good reputation of the blog owner of The Blog Revolution, I just wanted to make that clear.

Free Coloring Pages

Coloring in pictures of Tinkerbell on the internet is strangely addictive to this adult woman.  I colored in the one below numerous times before I got the colors just how I wanted them.  As you can see, there's a color chart just above the drawing.  You just click on the color of your choice and then on the drawing.  It adds that color to the picture and voila, it's as simple as that.

If you sign up for a free account, you can even upload your own drawings for your friends to color in and then you can save the drawings to your hard drive after you're done.  Or even print them directly from the website.

If written about this site having played around with it myself, an adult, but I can certainly see that it is obviously geared towards a younger crowd.  Teen girls in particular would love this kind of thing.

This adorable website has Free Coloring Pages as well as a section where you can dress up your own virtual dolls.  Celebrity dolls too!  I think I'll have to bookmark it for Abby as I'm sure she'll be using a computer in no time at all and I can't imagine any little girl not loving this.

Prepaid Credit Cards

Interestingly, I have a stepdaughter and a stepsister of the same age.  In fact, their birthdays are only about two weeks apart.  They are both 17 now and they are both becoming much more aware of their financial commitments as well as their financial limitations.

From what my Dad told me recently, my stepsister now has a credit card.  He and his wife wanted her to have it for numerous reasons and, of course, if handled correctly, I certainly agree that it is a valuable thing for a young person to have.  With such a large percentage of our daily interactions taking place online, I can’t imagine not having a credit card.

My stepdaughter would definitely find a credit card useful.  She sometimes comes to “borrow” our credit card to complete an internet transaction for concert tickets or the like and, provided we agree on a payment plan, we have no problem in doing it for her.  But I do want her to start doing these things for herself so that she can learn how to manage for own money.

Although I was a bit surprised that my stepsister had qualified for her own credit card, I didn’t query my Dad about it.  Having just read about the prepaid teen card, I’m guessing that that is what she’s got.  It would give her the benefit of being able to make purchases online as well as learn how to manage a credit card, without the worries of borrowing money and the possibility of going into debt.  The prepaid teen card also enables parents to get money to the teen quickly in an emergency and has a great chore & allowance system where parents can log on to the website and pay their teen for doing chores.  The money goes onto the prepaid card and is ready to be spent.

Not to mention also that the prepaid card would eliminate those nasty NSF charges that come with withdrawing too much from their bank accounts.  And of course, they come in a variety of cool designs!

It’s time for independence, not-so-little one.
