A visit to the park
We have a small park behind our house. It has a swing set, a big slide, a jungle gym and a seesaw-type thing. I like taking Jake and Abby there. It gets us out of the house and we don't have to go far.
Walking, holding Jake's hand and pushing the buggy... well, it ain't the easiest thing in the world. Especially as Jake is dawdler. He looks behind and to the side to check out his surroundings and I keep having to remind him to watch where he's going. It's very slow-going.
Anyway, so I like it when we're the only ones there. I hate it when other kids show up. Jake likes seeing the other kids, as any kid would, but he has this thing about putting himself in dangerous positions before I can get to him to avoid catastophe.
For instance, if another child is on the swing, Jake will run in front of it. He seems to be doing it to be near the other child and he probably just wants to play. But several times, I or another parent have reached out for him just in the knick of time. I can only put my heart through this so many times before I give up and bring them home.
Today, we were at the park for about a half-hour. Then we walked up and down the street. Now we're home... and it smells like nappy-changing time!
Joy.

Stephen / Website (7.5.07 19:32) I remember how when I was a kid I used to swing as high as I could and then attempt to jump off. At least my memory says that I did but I suspect I always bottled it and never managed the jump. No, I'm sure I did it once. Did I? Oh I can't remember. Yes, I did, no I didn't.... |
