News, news, news!
Well, it's been quite a while since I wrote here and I suppose that's because big things are happening in my life and I haven't really felt like I've had the energy or the time to write about them here. Everything is changing for us once again and I just haven't known where to start with it all.
In fact, the other reason for not writing about all this here is that some of my family and friends read this blog and I can never remember who I've told what to. And I'd hate for someone special to find out something important by reading my blog.
Anyway, the news is that we're on the move again. And it's another big one! This time, it's 2,100 miles West of here, to Edmonton, Alberta.
Why, you might ask.
We've been living in Eastern Ontario for 2 years now and, although we were fortunate to be able to buy a house here without needing a mortgage, we've found the job situation sorely lacking. Money has been tight as employment is scarce.
My father and stepmother live in Alberta - about an hour East of Edmonton - and, having heard about Alberta's booming economy, we started making some enquiries. The province is crying out for people to fill jobs and it seems like a popular place to be heading to right now. House prices are still decent, but definitely on the rise, due to Alberta's popularity.
I can't possibly tell you about all the research we've done or the many questions we've asked, but we feel like Alberta could be a great move for us. We're nervous about another long-distance relocation, but we think we are prepared for the hugeness of it.
We made the decision a few months ago, just prior to finding out I was pregnant. I'll be honest and say that we knew we'd be making a huge move, but planned and wanted this pregnancy anyway. The timing wasn't and still isn't ideal, but we'll manage, like we always do.
So we sold the house and we move out on August 17th - about 2 weeks away! We've been packing boxes and getting rid of any junk we may have acquired since our trans-Atlantic move 2 years ago.
And to make it all more interesting, we've decided to drive to Alberta. I'll be 24 weeks pregnant by then and my midwife has assured me that, as long as we stop frequently to stretch our legs, there should be no danger to baby or myself by driving that distance. We'll have Jake and Ruth in the car with us too, so we've decided to make a bit of holiday of it and take about a week to get there. Interestingly, when my Dad did the drive a few years back, he made it there in 2 and a half days! He hardly stopped or slept!
So that's our news. I've said it now and everyone knows.
As I type, Baby Girl is doing the Twist in my belly. You go, girl!
