Chav... huh?
My eldest stepdaughter has just arrived here from England for a 2-week holiday. Among other things, she has mentioned the word "chav" to me. You know, to describe a certain type of person. This word is new to me. I don't even know if I've spelled it correctly.
Can anyone tell me what a "chav" is?

Jeni / Website (11.3.06 18:04) Good old Wikipedia says this: Chav is a slang term which has been in wide use throughout the United Kingdom since 2004. It refers to a subcultural stereotype of a person with fashions such as flashy "bling" jewellery and counterfeit designer clothes or sportswear, an uneducated, uncultured, impoverished background, a tendency to congregate around places such as fast-food outlets, bus stops, or other shopping areas, and a culture of antisocial behavior. My town is full of them! Does that help? Jen x |
