Thump!

I was sitting on the couch, feeding Abby the other night and Jake was playing with his toys.  Soon, he came over and grabbed the blanket off the back of the couch.  He swung it around and had a great time with it.  Then he draped it over his head and started stumbling around the living room.  With images of a broken boy, I got up and closed the door to the basement stairs.

With arms outstretched to guard himself from walking into furniture, Jake walked around, looking like a red ghost (the blanket was red).  I giggled and called out to him to be careful.

After a few minutes of this, my attention went back to the television and I was vaguely aware that Jake took off down the hall, blanket still over his head.

A few seconds later came a big “thump” and Jake started crying.  It seems that he’d walked right into the front door!  Poor thing!

He dumped the blanket by the door and came back to me, rubbing his forehead.

Me?  I laughed my head off!  Bad Mum am I.  Even now, a couple of days later, it still makes me laugh!

Thank goodness I’d closed the door to the basement stairs!!

Ancient Egypt

As a child, my dream was that, one day, when I was all grown up, I would become an archaelogist.  I loved the idea of visiting Egypt and working there among the beautiful pyramids in Giza.  My Mum used to take me to the library so that I could borrow books on the subject and I'd spend my time drawing pictures of the Sphinx.

This website - Nama Bay Egypt -is ideal for anyone who is interested in the ancient land and all it's tales.  It holds photos from all over Egypt, including photos of the capital city of Cairo, the Pyramids of Giza and a beautiful sunset over the River Nile.

This is my favorite picture:

Never long enough

It is a veeeeeeery chilly minus 23C here in Eastern Ontario today and there's no way I'm venturing outside.  Especially not with two little ones who's noses and toes will freeze quicker than I care to imagine.  Remind me again why we moved back to Canada!

Well, it's about 2:45pm and Stephen's just headed off to work, Abby has just woken from her nap and Jake is running through the house and squealing loudly.  Me?  A nap would be nice but seeing as that's not possible, I suppose I'll take a minute to sit at my computer.  Abby never lets me sit here long though so this'll have to short and sweet...

Right on cue: Abby is crying.  After 5 minutes, she's had just about enough of sitting in her bouncy chair.  Gotta go.

Days of our Lives

Have I ever mentioned that I am a huge Days of our Lives fan?  Well, I am.  My Mum used to watch it when I was a little girl, along with the late Another World, and I watched it all through high school, college and into adulthood.  The only break I took from the show was the four years I lived in England.  And even then, I'd search the net for little tidbits of info on the show.  A true Days addict I am.

So I've just been introduced to this site.  The Days fan can check out what's been happening on the show, chat about the show in the forums or even sneak a peek at the Days of our Lives spoilers.  Have a look at the cast list and see the comings and goings of your favorite characters.  There is also a News Room and picture gallery.

This website has everything a Days fan could ever want.

Sleep, please.

Our nights are getting slightly better with little Abby.  Usually, we get 3 hours sleep right after putting her down in her bed.  Occasionally, we get 4!  Which is a really treat, I tell you.  After that, things are still a bit iffy.

Abby is still a baby that suffers terribly with wind and it will often stop her from settling down for another extended period.  So she'll sometimes join me in bed and she'll often sleep another 2 hours, sometimes 3.

That brings us to very early morning, like 5am.  At that point, she's quite unset and it's hard to settle her.  The nights feeds have trapped some wind in her belly and she wants the world to know about it.  That is usually when I'll bring her downstairs and we snuggle up on the couch.  Sometimes, this results in another hour of sleep... if I'm lucky.

Around 8am, Jake gets up.  Sometimes he sleeps until 9.  He's a boy who loves his bed.  I hope Abby soon adopts the same policy!

So I'm feeling as tired as usual and I'm looking forward to a more settled stage of our lives.

Stephen showed a little regret last night over the decision we'd made after Abby's birth that she would be our last baby.  Abby will grow out of this 'baby' stage soon enough, he said, and wouldn't it be a shame never to have another little baby.  Nope, I said, two's enough.  I've got my boy and my girl and I'm very content with that.  I look forward to them both being of an age where we can enjoy meals together, perhaps take a family holiday or simply play a little game together.  After Jake was born, I knew that I wanted more babies.  Since Abby's birth (and this is no reflection on Abby!), I feel content.  Complete.  Happy.

Online Coupons

With Valentine's Day fast approaching, may I suggest visiting the Coupon Chief...

The Coupon Chief is a website that provides online coupons for rebates on almost anything you can imagine.  For instance, here you'll find the page with all the discounts for flowers and gifts.  Or, if your partner is feeling more generous, try the jewellery page.

But the most exciting thing for our family is the Best Buy coupon page.  Not only are we considering the purchase of a new digital camera and memory card, but we will soon be replacing Stephen's computer so that he can run the new Command & Conquer game, due out soon.

Time out

I went for a job interview this morning and it went pretty well, I think.  I attended a job fair last week at the local Home Depot (similar to B&Q to you Brits), did an initial interview and was called back for a second interview today.  Amazingly, if I make through, I'll be called for a third interview!  You wouldn't think 3 interviews were needed, would you?

Anyway, I know that I've made it through this far and that the interview went well this morning because I've been told that they will be calling my references tomorrow.

I'm keen to work part-time now.  I feel like time out of the house will benefit me greatly.  With Stephen working only part-time, we are afforded the luzury of one of us always being around to take care of Jake and Abby.  Our two part-time incomes will cover our financial responsibilities and allow us both to enjoy child rearing and home-making.

I chose the Home Depot because we live very closeby.  I very much liked the idea of not being very far away from my babies.  See?  I can go out, but I can't go far.

Abby can stand up!

Not by herself, of course.  She’s only 11 weeks old.  But she has really strong legs and seems so chuffed when she’s upright.  Watch…

Free Online Dating

I met my husband online back in 1999 and I can certainly say that I look back at the whole experience with fond memories.  It was a wild and flirtatious time of my life and I truly think that I came away with a real gem.

I may not be looking into meeting someone online myself right now, but if I were, and with Valentine's Day coming up, I'd try a site like Just Say Hi. They provide a Free Online Dating service that would equally rival any paid service on the web.

When you meet someone online, you get the chance to just talk and get to know each other, without any of the worries.  I thoroughly recommend it.

Spread the love!
