We're in Alberta!  It took 7 days to drive it... but I'll write more about that another day.  For now, I'm sharing a dial-up connection with lots of other people so I'll get going.

We're all well.  I'm 26 weeks along now and Jake is adjusting slowly to his new temporary home.

Few and far between

Dial-up internet access sucks.  I can't stand it.  I need to get back to civilization!  My Dad lives out in the country and high speed isn't available here yet.  It frustrates him, but he's gotten used to it.  We've been here about 3 weeks now and it's still driving us mad.

Firstly, it means sharing the line with others who want to use it (the people who actually live here obviously have priority) and secondly, it means that even simple html pages without many bells and whistles seem to take forever to load.  I find myself not looking at pages because I don't want to wait.  A new experience for me.

We're also finding that house prices are a lot higher here than we realized.  I say 'realized' because we felt like we'd researched the area and we knew what kind of costs we were looking at.  But what we didn't know is that houses in Edmonton are sometimes selling for $20,000 to $30,000 over the asking price!

Why?  Because the demand is huge and supply is almost non-existent.  So buyers are trying to out-buy each other and put in the best offer.

We cannot afford to play this game and, although the job situation here is good, we're considering other options.  We feel really disappointed and more than a bit foolish.  Have we made a huge and costly mistake in coming here?  Perhaps.

In other news, Jake is adapting to his new but temporary home.  He doesn't like the dogs (3 of them!), but that's because they are taller than he is and that must be very overwhelming to him.  He's got a VERY annoying habit of pinching at the moment, which we are putting down to the stress of the move and his frustration at still not talking.  My arms, lower legs and upper chest look like pin cushions.  I have pinch marks and little sores everywhere.  I wish he'd stop but we don't know how to stop him.

I am 28 weeks pregnant now and I'm definitely bigger than last time.  Stephen swears there's two of them in there.  And by the kicks and punches that I receive all day and night, I can't say that I'd be surprised.  I feel pretty good though, other than a few aches and pains, and pelvic girdle pain isn't bothering me as much as it used to.  I'm very thankful for that!

That's it for now.  No doubt it'll be another couple of weeks before I get to type another entry.    I want our home back!!!
