...although, I obviously should update that anyway. I haven't looked at it in ages. There are blogs there that have disappeared or URLs that are incorrect. This new platform will be the kick in the ass that I need.
My counter is at:
95,777 visitors. Wow!
Well, that should about do it. I'm ready. Make your changes... but please be gentle with my blog.
Oh and please vote dickhead SEZER out of the Big Brother house!!
Oh dear
Everything's weird! I'm scared! The new blogging system is, so far, a bit funky. I've played around with my layout and removed the password to view my blog. Now I'm working on a few other glitches.
Pain in the ass...
13 weeks + 1 day
I just walked in from seeing my midwife. I answered loads of health-related questions about myself and Stephen, as well as told them the details of Jake's birth. Finally, they got me to lie down while they looked for Baby's heartbeat.
This was a bit tricky because, at 13 weeks, it was likely to be hard to find. After a few minutes of searching and my believing firmly that my pregnancy test results had been incorrect, the heartbeat was finally found. But only for a split second. The little fella/gal was still hiding low down beneath my public bone. He/she then disappeared almost as quickly as he/she had arrived.
150 beats a minute though. Yipee!
Oh and I'm definitely pregnant. No doubt about it now. I must admit: I'd been doubting it since I lost the nausea and didn't gain that much of a bump. Pregnancy plays funny tricks on the mind.
Frustrations
I'm not sure about this new format. I have a few beefs with it, such as:
- With the old system, I liked that I was automatically logged on whenever I visited my personal URL. If I wasn't (because I'd cleared out my cookies or something), I could visit the log on page, click on 'keep me logged on' or something to that effect and it would be so. Now, I have to visit the homepage to log on. At some point, that expires and I have to enter my password again.
- I no longer have categories for my links. They're all smushed together.
- The layouts suck. Especially the extended version of the layouts page where, apparently, "thousands of layouts" are available. I search for every topic I had even a remote interest in and nothing. The layouts seem to all be aimed at teens. There are loads of Cameron Diaz layouts or some boy band. Or 'loooooooove' layouts. Bleugh!
- Comments: When someone leaves a comment, a link back to their blog is not provided. Only their name. And strangely, the only link that is provided with their comment is a date. When clicked, it simply shows you the comment again. Errr, thanks.
- Old comments: I've no idea who left them because the links no longer work and the name isn't even there. Major grrr!
Well, that's it for now. 20six have got me though. I want to keep my blog. Everything I've ever written in a blog is here. So I'm probably unlikely to look elsewhere.
Anyway, when I come up with more, I'll post them here. Watch this space!
Yesterday...
Yesterday, Ruth, my youngest stepdaughter, had her dance show at her school. She wanted both Stephen and I to attend, but I worried about bringing Jake. A two-year old at any such function scared me to death!
But Stephen reasoned with me: we can't let Jake rule the roost around here. We can't stay away from events because we're worried about him acting out. Anyway, Stephen said, Ruth has three dance numbers. We'll take turns watching Jake so that we both get a chance to enjoy the show.
So we kitted ourselves out with three bottles of juice (the show was only an hour and a half long!), a bag of cookies, two nappies and wipes. We loaded the buggy into the car and set out.
It was hard-going, I tell you. We realized soon after getting there that Jake was really hyper and excited. We stood in the hallway of Ruth's school and tried in vain to keep the boy nearby. We'd tried the buggy but the noise level rose and people, I'm sure, started to think that we were beating him.
While Stephen went in to the auditorium to watch Ruth's first dance, I stayed in the hall with Jake and let him push the buggy up and down the hall. We must have gone back and forth a hundred times. The kid sure can move.
Then Stephen took his turn but decided to take Jake for a "quick" walk outside. I was going to watch Ruth's next dance and Stephen would be back for the finale. So I sat in peace and watched Ruth dance. She was really good and I was proud.
I sat through a couple more songs and wondered where Stephen had gotten to. Then the final dance number started, so I sat and watched that too. After the final applause, Stephen and Jake burst through the door and were a bit disappointed that they'd missed it. Well, Stephen was at least.
We took Jake home and put him to bed exhausted. It's hard to do these kinds of things with a lively two-year old. I think I'll wait a year to try again.
Don't like it
I've decided to work some more on my layout. I'm not sure that purple is my color. I'm at a loss, though, as to what colors I should use as I HATE the layouts provided with our new blogs. They don't work and are not as customizable as 20six makes them out to be.
Also, I hate not receiving emails when my favorite blogs are updated. I find that I haven't read any of them in ages and I don't like it. Why can I no longer click on a link on someone's blog and start receiving emails when said blog has been updated? And how on earth does this RSS thing work? Is that the same thing?
I'm not liking this new system. Not at all.
Tell me, do the paid subscribers get all these things? Would blogging improve if I subscribed??
Arg!
Arg! I'm going to have to get rid of my Guestbook, aren't I? Or find a whole new blog all together, which, I'd like to add, I don't really want to do.
This morning, I deleted 45 spam guestbook entries. These all came in since I went to bed last night. Astounding. I've being deleting the damn things for a few days now and I don't imagine it slowing down.
Unhappy Nik
IS 20six LISTENING????! (I'll add this to the support blog too. Maybe then we'll see someone comment on it. Watch this space...)
Kitted up
Jake's sister in England sent him an England kit! It's a bit too big - sized for ages 4 to 5 years! But doesn't he look darling?
Stephen's so proud that the boy's finally supporting the home team.

Go England!
Stephen hung the flag out the front of our house. Luckily, it has 'England' written across the front of it or these Cannucks wouldn't know which country's flag it was!
