Such a bad Mum!

I must be bad because this video makes me LAUGH!!  It only lasts 2 seconds and is only 187kb in size (very quick download, even on dial-up!).  It's such a short video because Jake was on the brink of hurting himself and I had to stop filming.  The last thing you hear on the video is my gasp.

Let me fill you in...

Jake has a big Tigger on wheels.  He is now old enough that we can sit him on it and push him around the living room and he doesn't fall off.  Here he is:

He loves it!  But then, after getting him off of Tigger, I started filming Jake trying to get himself back on.  This is what happened...

Ouch!

Jake is starting to take his first unaided steps.  By 'unaided', I mean that he tries to take a step or two with holding onto either a hand or to furniture.  He has a walker with wheels and he uses that to practically run around the living room but, today, for the first time, he deliberately let go of the wall and took a step towards me.

I was sitting on the couch, holding his drink of juice.  His eagerness for the juice is, I'm sure, what made him take a leap of faith and try walking.  He didn't quite make it though.  His eagerness was probably to blame as well for causing him to lose his balance and crash head-first into the side of the couch.

Like yesterday's dive into the edge of the coffee table, this tumble has left it's mark.  Our poor boy has a very bruised forehead!

You know you're losin' it when...

...you hang the clothes on the line and actually go back a few minutes later to admire your work.

Our weekend

Other than just a couple of minutes ago, I haven't written anything here in ages.  Well, since July 11th, to be precise.  It certainly seems like ages.  I've spent my days running after Jake, cleaning house and such, and I've spent my evenings peeling very stubborn wallpaper in our bathroom.  When I say 'evening', I mean the very brief time between when Jake goes to bed and when I feel completely knackered.  Two hours, tops!

But it's been a nice weekend.  Friday evening, Stephen and I brought the baby monitor outside and had our very first dip in the pool without the babe.  Although I love taking Jake for a swim, it was really nice to spend time with just Stephen.  We swam, cuddled, talked and giggle.  It was very relaxing and much-needed.

Then we went down into the cool basement and watched Hostage, with Bruce Willis, on DVD.  (To be clear: we didn't watch the movie with Bruce Willis; instead we watched a movie with Bruce Willis in it.  You know, just to be clear.)  It was a fast-paced movie, full of action, lots of guns and explosives, and a pretty decent plot.  Recommended.

Saturday, yesterday, was Sarah's 19th birthday.  After numerous phonecalls from England, we settled down to a birthday lunch of pizza and fries, followed by cake and ice cream.  We did the gift thing after that.

Later that evening, having been to the video store to bring back the DVD, Stephen returned with the 2003 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  He'd seen a clip of it a little while ago and was keen to see it.  What a freaky movie!  Highly disturbing, but that is what I like in a movie!  It was very gruesome and scary and, as such, quite enjoyable.  As usual, one questions why the 'good guys' go into the dark room where they heard the scary noise, but, other than that, I'd recommend it by saying that it's great if you're looking for a good "BOO!".

This morning, we watched the German Grand Prix, where Alonso won, again.  Brit Jenson Button got a podium place, which is great.  I can't say that I sat through the whole GP though, as I must admit that it bores me a bit now.

Right now, Stephen is mowing the back lawn and Jake is out there watching him.  I'm about to hang my second load of laundry.  Fun, fun...

Pool Party!

I invited my friend, Audrey, over from Montreal today.  I've known her for quite a few years and this was the first time I'd seen her since arriving back in Canada.  We'd talked on the phone numerous times, but somehow, hadn't gotten together.  Anyway, she brought her son, Dylan, with her.  He's 4 years old and really quite cute.  Full of energy though and so much louder than Jake.  I certainly do not mean that in a bad way.  Loud is fine when you're 4.

We talked a lot and did some catching-up and some reminiscing too.  We took our boys for a swim in the pool and were later joined by Stephen, the girls and their boyfriends.  It turned into a pool party!  It was great!

Then we came in and made hamburgers, hotdogs, salad and corn on the cob.  It was very yummy.  And I wasn't even involved in the clean-up!  Sarah and her boyfriend did it all.

With Dylan fast asleep on the back seat of the car, Audrey set off for her journey home about an hour ago.  Should be almost home by now...

I'm off to bed...
